D8

The Engine is an Ebay win. This D8 is a rare D8 EL with an electrical heater. Only a few hundrets were produced of the 220V version. The 110V export version is far more common. The D8 is like the D12 only the boiler is smaller. This may be the reason for the lacking demand that forced Wilesco to cancel the D8 in 2008 . The Engine dates some time around the 1970s. The whistle indicates the second half if it is original. My D12 would be a few years older then.

The Engine hab been in good hands and no kind of restoration had to be done. It is rare to find small Engines in good condition. Small Engines are the toys for the Kids. The bigger Engines are the toys for the Fathers and are frequently seen in good condition.

The engine is a good runner. I had  to attune myself to the fact that electrically heatet boilers produce steam for 3 to 4 minutes after the pug is pulled.

I am satisfied with the engine. The smaller boiler compared to the D12 EL does not matter really an do not limit the fun.

My Evaluation

  • easy to handle
  • much fun
  • solid
  • out of production for 30 years (the EL)

Highly recommended if still availlable
