D28

The D28 was the biggest single cylinder Engine Wileso ever produced. She is very similar to the D24. The characteristic difference is the Steam Dome. I think she was taken out of production because she is so similar to a D24. My D28 is an ebay win and in good working condition. It is the electrical heated version.

As with the D24 she uses the same cylinder that is used from the D16 up to and including the D21. The electrical heater is far better in using the Engins capabilities. The boiler produces so much steam that the engine is not able to use it when not under load. The savety valve is open all the time even if the Engine runs at maximum revolutions without load. The exhaust steam pressure is high enough to blow the condenser tray out of its hold and the tray is made from metal and heavyer than the plastic ones.

The characteristic optical difference between D28 and D24

I am very impressed indeed. The engine is a real monster with lots of Power left. She has a few rust but that is no problem. Mechanicaly she is really top. I believe she is able to drive the whole Wilesco driven model list up and down single handet. I am really very pleased and I like her very much.

because of the really small differnces there is no need to have a D28. A D24 is more than sufficient but... Why do I own one? because she is there. A Wilesco collection is not complete without a D28 ( I am very curious what a D32 is able to to if I ever schould have one).

My evaluation

  • extremly powerful
  • easy to handle
  • buckets of fun
  • good quality
  • electrical heating very good
  • out of production
  • expensive (collectors item)

Collectors only
