Die D40 ist ein Dampftraktor mit auskuppelbarem Antrieb, um stationär Modelle antreiben zu können. Sie ist der Vorgänger der D405 und wird schon lange nicht mehr hergestellt. Meine stammt aus Ebay und ist hervorragend in Schuß. Es ist zwar nicht die allererste Version, die sollte ein kürzeres Verdeck haben. Trotzdem ist sie recht alt. Mitte bis Ende der 1970er könnte passen. Sie hat noch eine Frontpartie, die derjenigen der Dampfwalze sehr ähnlich , wenn nicht sogar baugleich ist.
The D40 is a Traction engine that can cruise around or that can be used as stationary engine. She is the forerunner of the D405 and out of production. The D40 has the front of the D36 SR. The first production models also had the short canopy of the D36. I won her on ebay and she is in very good condition. She dates from about mid to end of the 1970s.

Die Maschine läuft gut bis sehr gut. Man merkt das sie lange nicht befeuert wurde. Ich denke die Laufeigenschaften bessern sich noch etwas. Die Laufzeit ist ziemlich kurz wenn man kaltes Wasser einfüllt statt vorgeheiztem. Mit vier, statt drei Stücken Esbit sind die Leistungen recht befriedigend. Ein Gasbrenner wäre sicher recht nützlich, aber den will ich der alten Dame nicht zumuten. Da werde ich Versuche machen wenn ich eine Maschine aus der 40x Reihe bekomme.
The engine is a very good runner. it needed a few trys until she run smoothly because she was not fired up for years. One should use prewarmed water for the boiler because filling with cold water restrict the running time to a few minutes. One also should use four pieces of solid fuel contrary to the tree pieces that Wilesco suggests to enhance the performance. A gas burner would be a desirable upgrade. I want to fit a D495 radio controlled TE with that feature.
